§ 7-4-160. Running at large.

  • (a)

    General. It is unlawful for the owner or keeper of any animal to permit such animal to be at large within the Town. Any such animal shall be deemed to be running at large when it is off the premises of such person and not under the physical control of a person capable of controlling the animal, or on the premises of the owner or keeper but not enclosed in a building or a securely fenced area or under the physical control of a person capable of controlling the animal. Any such animal may be impounded by the Town.

    (b)

    Public places. No domestic animal shall be permitted in any public place, unless under the physical control of a person capable of controlling the animal. Public places include, but are not limited to: public common areas of private property, parking lots, churches, cemeteries, parks, schools and swimming areas.

    (c)

    Escaped animals. Within one (1) hour after an animal escapes from either the owner or the person having custody of the animal, the owner or custodian of the animal shall report the escape of said animal to the Police Department or the Animal Control Officer.
